Red Line Radio EP97 Featuring ASU Head Baseball Coach Tracy Smith Is LIVE!
This week on Red Line Radio we had Arizona State head baseball coach Tracy Smith on the show. Now this is obviously a little bit of a different type of interview for a Chicago sports podcast as Tracy Smith aka “Skip” doesn’t have any blatant ties to Chicago, but that doesn’t make the interview any less in depth as far as baseball talk is concerned.
Now I’ve obviously been blogging about ASU baseball once a week or so because I happened to lose a bet to him. Smack dab in the middle of the interview and after he roasted me for a good 15-20 mins for being a short, fat, disgusting slob, he basically said “I don’t believe you have ever played baseball. We’re stopping everything and having a home run derby”. The bet was that if he won, I’d have to blog ASU baseball once a week for the remainder of the season. If I won, he had to let me be the full time bullpen catcher at ASU for the rest of my life. Needless to say I’m still here slinging you poorly spelled White Sox blogs and click bait Game of Throne blogs on the reg. Win some, lose some.
Anyways – have a home run derby we did. That video will be coming out in a few hours.
But I will say this; standing at home plate of Phoenix Municipal Stadium was truly a surreal experience. That’s a Mecca of College baseball. Sure it’s been renovated a few different times but this is the stadium that baseball greats like…. Barry Bonds. And Reggie Jackson. And Dustin Pedroia. And 100+ other alumni that have all made it to the show.
To step into the batters box at this field:
Knowing the VERY BEST BASEBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME played his college ball there… was incredible to me. I will never forget it.
We are starting to work with Arizona State baseball on a very official level for a project moving forward. It’s still in the “kicking the wheels” stage but should what we’re working on come to fruition, you’ll love the Barstool/ ASU baseball marriage.
***ALSO IN THE SHOW***
